The Gom Benn Scholarship Fund presented more than $2,000 in scholarship awards to 22 students at the annual Chinese New Year’s luncheon hosted by the Gom Benn Village Society.
The Stephen Huahn Memorial Scholarship, presented to the top college student, was awarded to three students: Winson Seto, Courtney Wong and Thomas Yan. Also in the college category, a scholarship was awarded to Graig Lee.
Harold and Mary Wong donated $10,000 to establish the Stephen Huahn scholarship to honor the memory of their late son.
Scholarships for the top high school students were presented to Megan Lam, Anita Lee, Veronica Lee, Curtis Wong, Ernest Wong and Justin Wong.
In the junior high school or middle school category, scholarships were presented to Amanda Toy, Ashlee Wong and Kari Wong.
Awards were presented to elementary school students Kristin Toy, Keith Young and Brent Young. Also “lei see” were presented to Melissa Lau, Priscilla Lee, Adam Wong, Hayley Wong, Michelle Wong and Brittney Young.
Awards also were presented for the top essays to Thomas Yan, Veronic Lee, Amanda Toy and Kristin Toy.
A $400 award goes each year to the Gom Benn Village school.
