To recognize the outstanding academic achievements of the descendents of Gom Benn Village and to encourage them to pursue higher education and excellence, the Kan Pien Scholarship Fund presented nearly $3,800 in scholarship awards to 28 students at a brunch July 18, 2009, at Evergreen Baptist Church.
The Stephen Huahn Memorial Scholarship, presented to the top college student, was awarded this year to Brent Young, a business student at the University of California, Riverside, who is transferring to the University of Southern California.
The Stephen Huahn scholarship was established with a $10,000 donation by Harold and Mary Wong to honor the memory of their late son. The Roy Lim and Gim Oil Wong scholarship for the top high school student was presented to Lauren Wong, a senior at Chino Hills High School. The scholarship, established with a $10,000 donation, honors the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lim.
