To recognize the outstanding academic achievements of the descendents of Gom Benn Village and to encourage them to pursue higher education and excellence, the Kan Pien Scholarship Fund presented nearly $4,000 in scholarships to 28 students at a picnic lunch August 21, 2010, at Barnes Park in Monterey Park.
The Stephen Huahn Memorial Scholarship, presented each year to the top college student, was awarded to Jessica Pih, a sophmore at Stanford University. The Stephen Huahn scholarship was established with a $10,000 donation by Harold and Mary Wong to honor the memory of their late son.
The Roy Lim and Gim Oil Wong scholarship for the top high school student was presented to Kristi Chu, a junior at Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach. The scholarship, established with a $10,000 donation, honors the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lim.
