The Gom Benn Scholarship Fund presented more than $5,200 in scholarships to 40 students at a picnic lunch July 30, 2011, at Garvey Ranch Park in Monterey Park.
The Stephen Huahn Memorial Scholarship, presented each year to the top college student, was awarded to Jessica Pih, a junior at Stanford University. The Stephen Huahn scholarship was established with a $10,000 donation by Harold and Mary Wong to honor the memory of their late son.
The Roy Lim and Gim Oi Wong scholarship for the top high school student was presented to Kristi Chu, a senior at Redondo Union High School in Redondo Beach who will attend the University of California, San Diego, in the fall. The scholarship, established with a $10,000 donation, honors the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lim.
Jessica and Kristi are repeat winners from 2010.
