The Gom Benn Scholarship Fund presented more than $6,100 in scholarships to 68 students at a picnic lunch Aug. 12, 2012, at Garvey Ranch Park in Monterey Park.
The Stephen Huahn Memorial Scholarship, presented each year to the top college student, was awarded to Kevin Wong, a senior at the University of California, Riverside. The Stephen Huahn scholarship was established with a $10,000 donation by Harold and Mary Wong to honor the memory of their late son.
The newly established Ron Chin scholarship was presented to another top college student, Emily Lowe, a sophomore at Harvard. The Ron Chin scholarship was endowed with a $10,000 donation in the memory of the son of former Scholarship Fund President Gene Chin and his wife Alma.
Another newly established scholarship, honoring Gim Hong Lee, endowed with a $10,000 donation from his wife, Sun Woo Lee, was presented to the top graduate school student, Hayley Wong, who is attending the University of Pennsylvania.
The Roy Lim and Gim Oi Wong scholarship for the top high school student was presented to Partrick Lowe. The scholarship, established with a $10,000 donation, honors the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lim.
