2015 Scholarship Winners

The Gom Benn Scholarship Fund awarded more than $5,600 in scholarships to 30 students at a July 25, 2015, luncheon at Gold Hibachi Buffet in Alhambra.

The Ron Chin Scholarship was presented to the top graduate school student, Brittney Young, who completed her master’s degree in accounting at Cal Poly Pomona. The granddaughter of Bing and Sau Wong, Brittney enjoys attending Taylor Swift concerts when not studying to be a CPA.  The Ron Chin Scholarship was endowed with a $10,000 donation in the memory of the son of former Scholarship Fund President Gene Chin and his wife Alma.

The Stephen Huahn Memorial Scholarship, awarded each year to the top college student, was awarded to Jessica Lee, who graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Mount St. Mary’s University. The granddaughter of Gin K. Wong, Jessica likes swimming, movies and music. The Stephen Huahn Scholarship was established with a $10,000 donation by Harold and Mary Wong to honor the memory of their son.

The Gim Hong Lee Scholarship, endowed with a $10,000 donation from his wife, Sun Woo Lee, was presented to another top college school student, Kristi Chu, who graduated from UC San Diego with a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering. Kristi is the granddaughter of Wong Sui Ching. Her goal is to become a CEO, so in between her hard work she relaxes by dancing and drinking beer.

The Roy Lim and Gim Oi Wong Scholarship for the top high school student was awarded for a third straight year to Brendan Yang of the LA. Center for Enriched Studies. Brendan is the grandson of Karl Lee. He is undecided on a career goal. Among his personal interests are golf, gaming, drawing, music and movies. The scholarship, established with a $10,000 donation, honors the memory of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Lim.
