The Gom Benn Scholarship Fund honored 37 students for their academic excellence in the 2019-2020 school year with $7,750 in scholarships. The scholarships included five memorial awards presented to the top graduate school, college and high school students.
Cynthia A. was honored with the Chew and Howly Hoi Memorial Scholarship Award as the top part-time graduate student. She has completed a master’s degree in psychology, specializing in applied behavior analysis, from Capella University in Minneapolis. Her goal is to be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. Megan Lee was honored with the Ron Chin Memorial Scholarship Award as the top full-time graduate student. She has completed a Doctor of Physical Therapy degree at Boston University. Her career goal is to be an athletic trainer and physical therapist. Her interests include hiking, rock climbing, playing with my dogs, yoga, reading, listening to music and cooking. Megan is the granddaughter of Barbara Wong.
Jillian Pih was honored with the Gim Hong Lee Memorial Scholarship as one of our top college students. She is a junior at the University of Southern California, studying communications, psychology and marketing. Her career goal is to be a businesswoman at a top company. Her interests include long-distance running, hiking, baking and traveling. Jillian is the granddaughter of Chew Hoi, who for many years was the treasurer of the Scholarship Fund.
Keri Isara was honored with the Stephan Huahn Memorial Scholarship Award as another of our top college students. She is a junior at UC Irvine studying psychological sciences. Her career goal is to be an occupational therapist. Her interests include baking, volleyball and aikido. Keri is the granddaughter Gene Chin, former president of the Scholarship Fund.
Kayla Chow was honored with the Roy and Gim Oi Lim Memorial Scholarship Award as the top high school senior. She graduated from Crescenta Valley High School. Her career goal is to be a clinical laboratory scientist. Her interests include video games, playing various instruments, Disney, swimming and traveling. Kayla is the granddaughter of Hoy Yuen and Jean Wong.
